Road to Lounge Acts finals this Saturday
Four bands still standing
Posted: Jun 16, 2009
Four of the top local rock bands, as chosen by fans at a competition
earlier this month, will battle this weekend for a spot in the Kurt
Cobain Memorial Foundation's popular Lounge Acts concert in October.
Saturday's all-ages event, titled Road to Lounge Acts, is set for 8
p.m. at the Aberdeen VFW. Bands scheduled to perform include Audrey's
on Fire, Godfed Static, Powerbomb the Wolf and Rebel Skum. Those four
bands were among a group of 10 that played two songs each with the same
gear earlier this month to determine who would advance to the finals. A
panel of judges and audience votes determined the finalists. Because
one of the Foundation's goals is to encourage local musicians and give
as many as possible an opportunity to play a big show in their
hometown, past winners were not eligible to compete.
Saturday, each band will play a 30-minute set of original songs.
The order of bands will be drawn out of a hat prior to the competition.
Each member of the audience will be given a ballot on which to cast
their vote for who they thought did best. The winner will be announced
at the end of all the performances and will earn a spot on the bill at
Lounge Acts.
Cover charge is $5 and doors open at 7:30. There is a bar available
for those 21 and older. Proceeds from the event go to the Kurt Cobain
Memorial Foundation, a nonprofit organization formed in 2004 to
memorialize Aberdeen native Kurt Cobain in his hometown. For more
