ABERDEEN, Wash. – The Kurt Cobain Memorial Foundation is announcing its third-annual benefit concert, Lounge Acts, scheduled for 8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 17, at the recently renovated D&R Theatre in Aberdeen, Wash. The show is open to all ages. All proceeds go toward the foundation’s goal to build a youth center in Cobain’s honor in his hometown of Aberdeen.

Tickets are $20 and on sale at www.brownpapertickets.com beginning at noon, Wednesday, Aug. 19.

Headlining the fundraising event will be quadruple-platinum-selling recording artists Candlebox, whose string of hits includes unforgettable classics such as “Far Behind,” “You,” and “Simple Lessons,” which now are rock radio station staples. The band’s first single off 2008’s “Into the Sun” album, “Stand,” hit the Top 20 on Billboard’s U.S. Mainstream Rock Charts and their current single, “A Kiss Before,” is on the charts, as well. Candlebox is currently on a summer tour of the U.S. supporting “Into the Sun.”

Also on the bill will be very special guests Before Cars, fronted by former Nirvana drummer Chad Channing. Channing, who played on Nirvana’s seminal “Bleach” album, steps out from behind his drum kit in Before Cars, singing and playing bass. The band’s current album, “Walk Back,” was released earlier this year. Channing recently told Rolling Stone magazine his latest album is “somewhat of an anthology. It’s an accumulation of songs I wrote before Nirvana, during Nirvana and after Nirvana.” The “Bleach” album is being reissued by Sub Pop Records later this year, along with a bonus live CD recorded in Portland in 1990.

The fundraising event’s lineup also features the two winners from The Road to Lounge Acts, a popular “battle of the bands” performance held earlier this summer in Aberdeen. Those bands include Godfed Static, which performed at last year’s Layne Staley tribute show in Seattle and Audrey’s on Fire, an upcoming blues-rock band based out of Aberdeen.

Lounge Acts 2009 will be the first show held in the Aberdeen’s newly remodeled D&R Theatre and the first Lounge Acts to be held in Aberdeen. The first two shows were held in nearby Hoquiam.

The lineup includes:

Before Cars: www.myspace.com/beforecars

Godfed Static: www.myspace.com/godfedstatic

Audrey’s on Fire: www.myspace.com/audreysonfire

All proceeds will be used to further honor and memorialize Cobain in his hometown of Aberdeen. In 2005, the Foundation erected a large sign at the entrance to town reading, “Welcome to Aberdeen: Come As You Are” to commemorate Cobain’s legacy.
